1 Hour of Table Tennis Training in a 5 mins Video

Why Sharing a Training Session

I love my weekly hour of training with my Table Tennis coach Masaaki.

It really makes a difference to have somebody with expertise, patience, and skills tell you what you’re doing right, what you’re doing wrong, and what you should learn next.

I recorded my training on December 10th and decided to analyze it and share it to compare with other players. Does your training look something like this, too?

Best Moments

If you want to see the most interesting moments, I think they were these:

2:26-2:41: Alternate BH and FH loop. Different Angle. Version 4.

3:59-4:09: BH hit and spin after Masaaki’s corrections (much better)

4:10-4:20: BH hit and spin further from the table

4:44-4:51: 3rd ball opening BH loop + BH hit and spin

Complete Training Session Analysis

0:05-0:16: Backhand loop. A problematic shot for me. We dedicated a big part of the training session to it.

0:17-0:34: Forehand loop. More consistent, by best stroke I think. We didn’t work on it very much this day.

0:40-0:51: Racket position correction.

0:52-1:01: Racket position practice.

1:02-1:12: BH to BH loop, with corrections. There’s more spin here, a better shot.

1:13-1:33: Alternate BH and FH loop. Trying to combine the new BH loop with corrections with my more consistent FH loop.

1:34-1:44: Alternate BH and FH loop.

1:45-1:59: Alternate BH and FH loop. Different Angle. Version 1.

2:00-2:09: Alternate BH and FH loop. Different Angle. Version 2.

2:10-2:25: Alternate BH and FH loop. Different Angle. Version 3.

2:26-2:41: Alternate BH and FH loop. Different Angle. Version 4.

Do you see improvement in the versions?

2:42-2:53: BH Flick

2:54-3:05: BH loop receiving

3:06-3:18: Drop push

3:19-3:34: FH Flick

3:35-3:46: Service practice

3:47-3:58: BH hit and spin review (not very good)

3:59-4:09: BH hit and spin after Masaaki’s corrections (much better)

4:10-4:20: BH hit and spin further from the table

4:20-4:25: 3rd ball opening FH loop + BH hit and spin

4:26-4:36: 3rd ball opening FH loop + FH loop

4:37-4:43: 3rd ball opening FH loop + BH hit and spin

4:44-4:51: 3rd ball opening BH loop + BH hit and spin

4:52-5:05: Service practice
